In February 2021, the YouTube channel of Libreta de Apuntes, an independent Colombian media outlet, received a copyright claim from Caracol TV. The claimed video was a news item about the first vaccinations in the country and the disputed material had been published by the Colombian government. According to the notice, Caracol TV would receive monetization of its video or access to its statistics.

Journalist Ricardo Galán, founder of Libreta de Apuntes, criticized on his Twitter account that private channels were demanding ownership of content that did not belong to them, with YouTube's authorization and to the detriment of independent media.

According to what he said at the time, it was not the first time something like this had happened. In the past it had had to appeal this kind of claims and the platform ended up giving the reason to Notebook. Although with its previous decisions YouTube had made it clear that there was no copyright infringement, it still allowed, at least for a while, to lose the monetization of the videos claimed without grounds.
