In April 2021, travel youtuber Alex Tienda began uploading to his channel a series of documentaries about a visit to Venezuela. Shortly after posting the ninth installment, the platform notified him that a human reviewer had determined that the video would be demonetized for violating the rules for advertisers for containing inappropriate language.

Although the notice did not mention the bits that violated the policy, Tienda suspected two possibilities. The first was the repeated use of the word "faggot," which he had used to imitate his hosts in a friendly manner. The other was a fragment in which a candy vendor referred to himself as "Negrito Carlos."

The youtuber exposed the situation on his Twitter and Instagram accounts. He put the original post on private and the next day re-uploaded the video, superimposing a beep on the fragments in which he said "faggot" and removing the candy vendor's presentation. On both Twitter and Instagram he asked his subscribers to re-watch the video to recover the stats and earnings from the previous one. To date, the new video is ad-supported.
